Dear ,

For many of the communities in our networks, their identity as a place of sanctuary is one of their greatest strengths. It’s this warm inclusivity that makes them special, but it also makes them a target for those who seek to divide us.

A month on from the riots and communities are still reeling. People seeking sanctuary and those who work beside them should not have to face this alone. We must all unite against the forces of hate, racism and prejudice.

Call out the politicians and press who normalise racism and Islamophobia, speak up for refugee rights and start making tangible positive changes in your community today.

Campaigns, actions and notable dates

Start having courageous conversations about refugee rights
A crucial part of shifting public attitudes is down to ordinary people simply talking about what they believe in. It’s down to having conversations. Use our new guide to help you speak up for sanctuary.

End Racist Rhetoric, End Racist Riots
Refugee Action have launched a petition calling on politicians and press to stop using anti-refugee, anti-Muslim, anti-migrant language. Add your name here.

Keep Campsfield Closed
People were detained in Campsfield House for 25 years, from 1993 until its closure in 2018. Now, the government plans to re-open the detention centre. If the plan goes ahead, 400 people will be imprisoned in our community without trial, without time limit, and without proper judicial oversight. Take action now.

End Hotel Asylum Accommodation
RAMFEL have launched a petition which calls for an immediate end to the use of hotels as accommodation for asylum seekers and calls that people be housed in safe, welcoming communities.

Notable upcoming dates:

East and Southeast Asian Heritage Month - September
World Letter Writing Day - 1 Sep
