Our vision of a positive alternative: how the asylum system should look. 80% of people in Britain want an asylum system that’s well managed, fair and compassionate. But that’s far from that we have. Read our vision of what a positive alternative could look like.

Newcastle United is the first Premier League club Football Club of Sanctuary. The football club and the official charity arm of the club have received this formal accreditation after demonstrating their outstanding impact on the lives of individuals seeking sanctuary.

Our schools programme changes lives. BBC News covered how a London primary school helped resettle a Syrian family as part of its commitment to being a School of Sanctuary. Help us support more schools on this journey - chip into our fundraiser.

Window stickers for awarded organisations. We have new 'we stand with people seeking sanctuary' window stickers available for awarded orgs. City of Sanctuary groups can order stickers for their own areas or orgs can order directly.

Thank you team Manchester! This week, Manchester City of Sanctuary said goodbye to Liz and Janet who have been the driving force behind the group. What this group has achieved over the last few years has been staggering. Hats off to you all.

Our Sanctuary Awards programme recognises and celebrates the organisations and institutions who go above and beyond to foster welcome, compassion and empowering opportunities. This month we have had the honour of awarding...

Huge congratulations to
St Benedict's Primary School, Birmingham; Bluecoat Primary School, Nottingham; St George's CofE Primary School, Stockport; St Joseph's Catholic Primary School, Birmingham who are all now Schools of Sanctuary.

We're over the moon that Newcastle United is the first Premier League club Football Club of Sanctuary.

Well done to Lewisham Council who have been re-accredited as a Local Authority of Sanctuary.

Each one of these awards is assessed by a panel which includes as a minimum, a local member of City of Sanctuary, someone with lived experience of seeking sanctuary and an expert in the field. An award lasts three years when it then must then be re-assesed. Find out more about the awards process here.

Disabled Asylum Seekers: Care Act vs Asylum Support
In this seminar on April 11th, the law relating to the division of responsibilities for disabled asylum seekers between local authorities and the Home Office will be examined, particularly including recent case law on the duty to provide accommodation to adults with care needs. Sign up here.

New Theatre of Sanctuary show: Tender
Drawing on the personal narratives of its company of refugee actors, Phosphoros Theatre's new play encapsulates the radical joy and skilful storytelling that sees the company resist dominant and reductive media headlines. Free coding courses for people seeking sanctuary

Aziz Foundation/Asylum Reform Initiative 12 month fellowship
This partnership is seeking candidates for a 12-month paid fellowship to provide an early career development opportunity for people from a Muslim background seeking to work in policy advocacy, political influencing, communications, and campaigning work for social change.
