Human Trafficking and its Relevance to the Education Sector Human trafficking is one of the most misunderstood and growing crimes in Scotland. Higher education students are currently considered one of the most at risk groups. This session on November 21st will provide an introduction to human trafficking; dispelling some myths, describing basic indicators and reporting mechanisms, as well as sharing approaches other Scottish educational institutions are taking to combat this.

Wellbeing of refugee children - survey Save the Children are conducting research into the wellbeing of refugee children across Europe and their hopes and dreams for the future. They are looking for, 1) Refugee children to respond to their multilingual survey, with permission from their parents. Participants will receive a £10 voucher; 2) Teachers to participate in a 1:1 online/phone interview at a time that works for you. If interested, email Lucy Piling [email protected].

New research finds attitudes to immigration warming in Scotland Migration Policy Scotland has published new research on public attitudes to immigration in Scotland. This is the first representative survey in Scotland since 2014. The report finds people in Scotland have become more welcoming of immigrants. Read it here.

Schools of Sanctuary: our impact We’ve just reviewed the last school year – and WOW, it was a big one. Over a hundred primary and secondary schools, early years settings and sixth forms were awarded as Schools of Sanctuary and nearly 300 more signed the supporting organisation pledge and took the first step on this journey. Pallant House Gallery: Sanctuary Selects Sanctuary in Chichester have worked with their local gallery to develop a new exhibition. People seeking sanctuary have explored the Gallery’s collection of 20th and 21st-century prints and ceramics, they then chose works that mean something to them and shared their personal responses through accompanying labels. Wellbeing resources BeWell is a project aiming to improve wellbeing of people working in the migration sector. They have designed a fantastic toolkit to support groups in discussing wellbeing with team members and designing wellbeing policies and practices.
