Dear friends,

With Refugee Week soon and a General Election in less than a month, now is the time to amplify our message of welcome.

We know that as a member of our networks, every day you work hard to make sure people seeking safety feel welcomed at your university - but we want people seeking sanctuary to feel safe everywhere.

This can only happen if our leaders, whoever they are, share our view that we should lead with kindness, understanding and compassion.

We all have a role to play - communities, universities and YOU.

Together we can make a clear call for a more welcoming UK. Thank you for helping us get there.

Read on for ideas about platforming a message of welcome, how to support the Palestinian academic community, exciting events and interesting opportunities.

Kind regards,

Maryam Taher

Technical Educational Support Initiative

TESI is an initiative to support Gazan students to complete their degree programmes via distance learning, in close collaboration with staff from universities in Gaza (80% of which have been severely damaged or destroyed). To support the building of online infrastructure and sustain Gazan academics, they are seeking donations,  and need international partners to help them in this venture.

Open letter by Gazan academics and administrators to the world

This open letter is an important call from Gazan universities to push back against any educational initiatives that are not developed in consultation with Gazan universities themselves, and which could contribute to the scholasticide and erasure of agency and identity of the Gazan people.
