Hello,
What a difference a week makes! Last week I wrote to you about how to support people who may be facing deportation to Rwanda. This week, I am writing this mailing to encourage you to consider how you can speak up for sanctuary now that the country will be going to the polls on 4 July.
With a General Election in just 31 days, now is the time to supercharge our message of welcome. This is so all those standing know that we want compassionate leaders who will work to support people seeking sanctuary.
We know that as FE Colleges you are working daily to help new arrivals to thrive at your institutions. We want people seeking sanctuary to feel safe everywhere, and this can only happen if our leaders hear that our colleges and communities support welcome.
The ideas below are about making our message of welcome unavoidable. This is so that wherever a political candidate may go, it will be clear that their community is calling for something better.
Finally, as we look ahead to our plans for the academic year 2024/25, we are encouraging all FE Colleges that are planning to seek recognition as a College of Sanctuary to read our resource pack. You can order hard copies to be sent to your College here.
In solidarity, Sara Trewhitt, Director of Operations/FE Colleges Lead
